Hiboo Networks has partnered with National Capital FreeNet (NCF), Ottawa Community Housing Corporation (OCH), and the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) to launch CommuniFi, a pilot project that is bringing free WiFi to two OCH buildings in Vanier.

The CommuniFi project aims to bridge the digital divide in Ottawa by offering fast, secure, and reliable free Wi-Fi, focused on helping those living with low incomes. This initiative will make it easier for tenants of 251 and 255 Donald Street to connect to essential educational and employment resources, health and community services, and friends and family.

To support this initiative, Hiboo Networks has provided free fibre backhaul connectivity. Our best network is now delivering high-quality Wi-Fi to the buildings’ common spaces, transforming these areas into a hub for learning, support, and community events. Local organizations can also use the free WiFi in Ottawa to host a variety of valuable programs, such as digital skills training and community social events.

Designed to alleviate the financial pressures of home internet and cellphone data, the CommuniFi project aims to strengthen digital inclusion and empower tenants to better navigate the digital world.

“Hiboo Networks is proud to collaborate with NCF, OCH, and CIRA to address the digital divide and promote equitable access to reliable high-speed internet,” said Christopher Emery, General Manager of Hiboo Networks.

“The CommuniFi project aligns with our core mission at Hiboo of empowering and enriching our community through digital connectivity. We are excited to collaborate with local organizations to serve our community and drive social and economic opportunities for all.”
